Solar energy advantages and disadvantages

Solar energy advantages and disadvantages

Solar energy is the drive of the modern society due to its amazing features such as durability, affordability, renewable, pure electrical current, easy to maintain, and lots more. but there are also some factors that needs to be considered when using solar energy to generate your electricity.

you might have heard slogans such as: allow the sun to pay your electricity bills, let your roof harness your electricity, etc. these are all good slogans trying to explain to you that there is actually a way to stop depending on one source of energy and switch to energy generation using heat from the sun.

How Solar Energy Is Generated

solar energy is generated by the combination of certain solar equipment such as: solar panel, solar inverters, and solar batteries

Components for Solar Energy Generation

The following are the various components for generating electrical energy; There are basically 4 components needed for the generation of solar energy and they are:

  1. Solar panels: This is the component that traps light from the sun light and sends it to the solar inverter. e.g: Sun Power 100W MonoCrystalline Solar Panel, Sunfit Monocrystalline Portable solar panel 250W, etc.
  2. Solar Inverters: This component is responsible for the conversion of the DC current from the solar panel to an AC Current good for use. e.g:Haus-Strom Inverter 1.2KVA/12V, Afriipower Inverter 1.7KVA/24V (Pure Sine Wave). Luminous Inverter EcoFelicity Inverter (transformer based) 3.5KVA/2, etc.
  3. Solar Batteries : this is where the generated fine tuned electrical current is stored for further use even when the sunlight is gone. e.g: Century Ceiil Lite Tubular Battery 220Amps, Multi Power Tubula Battery 220Amps/12V, etc.
  4. Solar Accessories: These are minor tools used in the assembling of the components to work. E.g. is copper wires, battery rack, etc.

Advantages of solar energy

  1. it is renewable
  2. it is affordable
  3. it is easy to install and maintain
  4. it is pure
  5. stored current can last for a long period of time
  6. it adds to the development of any economy
  7. it helps to reduce the cost of purchasing fossil fuel
  8. it is stable
  9. it is reliable
  10. components are readily available for change in cases of damage

disadvantages of Solar energy

  1. it requires sunlight to operate: meaning that states with low rate of sunshine will produce very little solar energy
  2. The higher the amount of voltage you want to generate, the higher the cost of purchase
  3. requires a maintenance service by solar engineers
  4. not all roof tops supports good solar panel mounting
  5. the initial cost of set up is a bit high though it is worth it

Conclusion

though solar energy has advantages and disadvantages, it is right to say the number of advantages is more than its disadvantage.
